Oyo kidnapping update: Tinubu pledges safe rescue for students and teachers

The Federal Government has announced that it is collaborating with international partners to facilitate the safe return of 47 teachers and students who were abducted from schools in the Yawota and Ahoro Esienle communities of Oriire Local Government Area in Oyo State.

During the inauguration of the renovated 154-bed Premier Hotel in Ibadan, President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, expressed commitment to this effort on Thursday.

“I want to assure you that all realistic actions, including international cooperation, are being implemented to ensure that the kidnapped individuals from Oriire Local Government return home unharmed,” he stated.

He also reassured Oyo State residents and the wider South-West region that the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities throughout the country.

Tinubu encouraged citizens to stay alert and assist security forces by sharing information, while urging traditional and religious leaders to bolster community safety.

He emphasized that maintaining peace and security is vital for economic development and noted that the government has enhanced intelligence capabilities, inter-agency cooperation, technological monitoring, and support for security forces over the last three years.

Additionally, he mentioned that proposed legislation to strengthen policing at all levels is currently before the National Assembly.
