Peter Obi raises concern over increasing attacks on security forces

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for the 2023 presidential election, has voiced serious worries regarding the rising incidents of violence and fatalities targeting security personnel throughout Nigeria.

In a statement posted on his official X account on Tuesday, Obi described the ongoing assaults on soldiers, police officers, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) members, and community vigilantes as both “tragic and unacceptable.”

Having previously served as the Governor of Anambra State, Obi emphasized that the nation has been plunged into mourning due to a series of deadly assaults on security forces, underlining that their sacrifices should not be overlooked.

β€œOur armed forces have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, committing their lives to ensure the safety and stability of our nation. These frequent killings should act as a wake-up call for us leaders to better equip and motivate our security personnel. Security must be the cornerstone of governance,” Obi remarked.

He also stressed that Nigeria cannot keep laying its security personnel to rest while neglecting their families, arguing that the government has a duty to provide compensation and support to the dependents of those who have fallen in service.

β€œIt is not charity; it is justice for those who sacrificed their lives for our safety,” he stated.

Obi concluded by praying for the souls of the fallen heroes and offering comfort to their families, while reminding Nigerians to always recognize their sacrifice and patriotism.
