Truck container crushes Police officer, passenger to death in Ijora Badia

A devastating incident took place on Tuesday in Lagos’s Ijora region when a fully loaded 40-foot container truck tipped over and landed on a commercial tricycle, known as Keke Napep, resulting in the immediate deaths of two passengers, including a police officer.

The tricycle, registered as KJA 364 QN, was transporting unsuspecting individuals when the container from truck number XP 368 AKD fell as it was traveling along Ijora Causeway toward Ijora 7Up.

A statement from Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), confirmed the tragic event, noting that two other individuals, including the tricycle driver, were rescued but suffered serious leg fractures.

“The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirms the occurrence of a regrettable accident earlier today involving a fully loaded 40-foot container truck that overturned onto a commercial tricycle carrying unsuspecting passengers,” the statement expressed.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to recover the deceased and transport the injured victims to a local hospital for immediate care.

This unfortunate incident has once again sparked public demands for tougher regulations regarding the movement of heavy trucks and containers in heavily populated areas of Lagos.
