President Tinubu Hails Super Eagles’ “Courage and Precision”

Nigeria produced a stunning extra-time performance in Rabat, Morocco, to defeat Gabon 4-1 and advance to the final round of the CAF World Cup playoffs. After a tense 90 minutes ended 1-1, the Super Eagles exploded with three unanswered goals to secure their spot in the decisive qualifier.

The match was initially a frustrating affair for Nigeria, who controlled possession and territory but struggled to break down a resilient Gabonese defence. Their persistence was finally rewarded in the 78th minute when Akor Adams, who also scored in the previous 2-1 win against Lesotho, capitalized on a defensive mistake to give the Super Eagles a deserved lead.

Just as Nigeria looked set to seal the win, Gabon struck back in the 89th minute. A deflected shot from Mario Lemina wrong-footed goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, sending the tense encounter into extra time.

However, Nigeria regrouped and demonstrated their superior quality in the additional period. Chidera Ejuke restored their lead in the 97th minute, finishing off a well-worked move involving Wilfred Ndidi. Victor Osimhen then put the game beyond doubt, scoring twice to complete the 4-1 rout and send the Super Eagles into the final playoff round.
