Martin Amaewhule, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The move, which took place on Friday, saw Amaewhule defect alongside 15 other members of the state legislature.

According to the Speaker, the decision was prompted by a significant and clear division within the PDP.
This development follows a period of political turbulence in the state. Earlier this year, in March, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency, which led to the suspension of Governor Sim Fubara, his deputy, and the members of the State Assembly.
