Although the Super Eagles did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup, their strong performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco has made them a desirable opponent for teams heading to the tournament. For Nigeria, the match will serve as valuable preparation for the upcoming 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
This will not be the first time the two teams have met in a friendly. In their last encounter in November 2022, Portugal secured a decisive 4-0 victory over Nigeria. Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes scored twice, with Gonçalo Ramos and João Mário also finding the net for the Seleção.
