The incident, which occurred on Christmas Day, affected the high-rise structure formerly used as corporate office space but now serving largely as a warehouse and retail outlet for clothing materials. Authorities have confirmed that no casualties were recorded, while the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

According to official reports, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call at about 4:41 p.m. Fire crews from the Ebute Elefun and Dolphin fire stations were immediately dispatched, with additional reinforcement from the Sari Iganmu Fire Station and the Alausa headquarters.

Firefighters arrived at the scene within 12 minutes, at approximately 4:53 p.m., and began coordinated efforts to contain the blaze.

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire started on the fifth floor of the building before spreading to other levels. Governor Sanwo-Olu, who personally monitored the situation from the onset, directed emergency responders to intensify firefighting operations and ensure the evacuation of surrounding buildings to protect lives and property.

The governor maintained constant communication with emergency and security agencies throughout the operation, receiving updates and issuing directives well into the early hours of the morning. As of 3:40 a.m., when the fire had largely been brought under control, Sanwo-Olu reiterated the importance of prioritizing human life over material losses.

“Our priority is the safety of lives,” the governor said. “I have directed that the building and its surroundings be thoroughly secured and that emergency personnel must ensure no one is left inside. I commend our firefighters and first responders for their swift and courageous response. Lagosians should remain calm; the situation is under control.”

Security agencies have since cordoned off the affected area, while first responders continue safety assessments to prevent secondary incidents. The Lagos State Government assured residents that it remains fully on top of the situation and will provide further updates as investigations continue.

The statement was signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, on December 25, 2025.
