The Stables Sports Center in Bode Thomas Surulere played host to hundreds of football fans and spectators as the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Lagos Island divisional qualifiers got on the way with four pulsating fixtures on Sunday.

In what was tagged a battle of two defensive sides, FC Rainbow and Greater Tomorrow played a 1-1 draw in regulation time before the latter second a 2-0 victory via penalty shootout. 2 Odds FC came back from two goals down to defeat Dolphin football club 3-2 in a tense match.

” We a parading a new team this time, 80% of the players from last season are no longer with us so, our first match here is still a test run and we are happy we came out tops”. Segun said.

The initiator of the tournament, Dr. Bankole Allibay is excited about the progress achieved thus far. The Environmental Social and Governance expert said all is set ahead of the state championship in October.

” The Lagos Island division is the last phase of the qualifiers and our focus is already on the state championship in two months time, we truly have raised the standard in this edition and I am truly excited”. Bankole added.

The semi-finals of the Lagos Island divisional qualifiers are slated for Wednesday, August 6th, while the final will be held on Sunday the 10th.

Sixteen teams across the five divisions in Lagos will compete in the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer state championship in October.
