Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has urged politicians to refrain from politicizing security issues, warning that such behavior jeopardizes Nigeria’s unity and stability. During a visit from senior Directors of the Department of State Services (DSS), he criticized certain political figures for irresponsibly using security matters as political weapons, labeling this trend as “anti-democratic and reckless.”
Governor Sani emphasized that while constructive criticism is acceptable, some opposition members exploit national difficulties to undermine the government and foster division. He stated, “You can criticize me as a governor, but if your actions foster discontent, disrupt peace in Kaduna, or tarnish Nigeria’s reputation, you are promoting conflict.”

Recalling his time as a human rights activist, Sani referenced the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, who emphasized the need to separate the nation from its leaders. The governor also pointed out that certain elites manipulate religion and insecurity for their political gain.
He noted that those living in elite residential areas coexist peacefully regardless of faith, yet some use religion to incite division among the less fortunate, calling them the true “merchants of insecurity.” Sani warned that many of these individuals would flee the country if chaos ensues, saying, “They stir unrest from luxurious surroundings while their children are abroad. This is unpatriotic and a betrayal of national trust.”
Reiterating his dedication to unity and peaceful coexistence, he stressed that religion should not be a source of division. “God has placed us together as Muslims and Christians. We must support one another. I evaluate individuals by their character, not their faith,” he asserted.
Governor Sani also praised the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, security leaders, and the Director-General of the DSS, Mr. Adeola Ajayi, for their effective collaboration in addressing Nigeria’s security issues.
