Team Lagos has commenced its campaign for honours at the 23rd National Sports Festival, scheduled to hold in Enugu State in November 2026.
The Lagos contingent is currently participating in the South West Zonal Elimination Series in Oyo State, taking place from September 13 to 16, alongside Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti.

Team Lagos basketball coach, Alimi Olawale, expressed confidence that his teams would secure the available qualification slots despite strong competition from other states.
“Most of the states have very good players; they also want to qualify and play at the National Sports Festival proper,” Olawale said, adding that the team would seek to improve on its performance at the last edition in Ogun State, where it won gold in the men’s category and bronze in the women’s event.
The National Sports Festival, Nigeria’s biennial multi-sport competition often described as the country’s “Mini-Olympics,” brings together athletes from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to compete across various sporting disciplines.
