Yahaya Bello urges politicians to unite, be patient and serve

Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has called on political candidates in the state to prioritize unity, patience, and a commitment to serving the public as they prepare for upcoming elections.

During a meeting with Kogi State House of Assembly members in Lokoja, Bello emphasized the importance of political maturity and the need for collective advancement, according to a statement from his media office.

He stated, “Unite, be patient, serve people,” encouraging candidates to aim for enduring legacies instead of seeking short-term political wins.

This discussion comes in the wake of increased political activity and realignments following the rise of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, Bello’s ally and successor, after the 2023 gubernatorial elections.

Having served as governor from 2016 to 2024, Bello continues to hold significant influence in the state’s political arena and within the All Progressives Congress. He congratulated those who have obtained nomination forms while reminding them that political positions are temporary, and effective leadership is measured by one’s impact and legacy.

Bello also warned against the practice of paying for endorsements, advising any candidates who have done so to request refunds.

He encouraged the need for reconciliation with constituents and highlighted that unity, inclusivity, and engagement at the grassroots level are crucial for electoral success.

He expressed confidence in their future prospects, stating that achieving success requires ongoing dedication to public service.
