20 residents killed, scores abducted as Bandits attack again in Kauru communities

In a recent wave of violence in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, at least 20 residents have been killed and many others abducted in coordinated attacks by bandits, according to Sahara Reporters. One such attack occurred on Monday night in the community of Kadagen Kauru, where a young woman named Fatima Zahra was taken by the assailants.

This incident highlights an ongoing trend of violent assaults impacting various communities in the area. Local residents reported extensive killings and kidnappings, with Ningi Karku experiencing seven abductions and one death, Kajunga recording six abductions and two fatalities, and Kabari (Gobirawa) facing the highest toll with 53 people taken and four killed. Other communities, including Fadan Rishiwa, Kagadama, Fagen Rawa, Rafin Iwa, Unguwan Baka, Nasarawan Kadage, Darmanu, Rumaya, Zaman Chawai, Kadagen Kauru, and Kizanya, have similarly reported abductions, deaths, and injuries.

Security analyst Bakatsine described these attacks as a growing threat to the residents of Kauru LGA, emphasizing that the rising frequency and coordination of these assaults have instilled fear in many communities. He called for urgent and effective security interventions to prevent further casualties and mass kidnappings.

Recent weeks have seen similar violent events across the state, affecting women, children, and the elderly. For instance, in January 2026, bandits killed two people and abducted 32 others in villages within Sanga and neighboring areas, with attackers sometimes returning shortly after initial raids to target more victims.

Additionally, other parts of the state have reported incidents, such as an attack in December 2025 that resulted in the deaths of two individuals in Tudun Wadan Rido village in Chikun Local Government Area. Previous reports have also indicated the abduction of religious leaders and their families, including a priest and his wife in the Nissi community, also within Chikun LGA.
