95 candidates vie for Awujale of Ijebuland stool

A remarkable 95 princes and princesses from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House have officially declared their interest in ascending to the revered throne of the Awujale of Ijebuland.

The announcement was made by Lateef Owoyemi, the Olori Ebi (Head of the Family) of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, during a nomination meeting held at Bisi Rodipe Hall in Ijebu Ode. Owoyemi is also known by his traditional title, Otunba Jadiara.

The meeting was attended by other prominent leaders of the ruling house, including Deputy Olori Ebi Otunba Ajidagba and Chairman Chief Fassy Yusuf.

Addressing the assembly, Otunba Owoyemi explained the next steps in the selection process. He stated that the names of candidates who successfully pass the initial screening will be submitted to the Afobajes, or kingmakers.

According to Owoyemi, the kingmakers will then deliberate and select a single candidate from the shortlisted names. This chosen individual’s name will subsequently be forwarded to the Ogun State Government for final approval as the next Awujale.

He also noted that any parties with grievances regarding the selection process are free to direct their concerns to the state government.
