Olowa strongly advised against vigilantism, emphasising the importance of reporting any suspicious activities to the proper authorities.

He said, “We must all be security conscious. If you see something suspicious, please do not take the law into your own hands. Report immediately to the nearest security agency.”

The chairman also directed hotel operators to maintain meticulous guest registration records to aid security monitoring efforts.

Echoing these sentiments, the Onibeju of Ibeju and Paramount Ruler of Ibeju-Agbe, Oba Waliu Olasunkanmi Oguntolu, called on residents to pay close attention to newcomers in their communities and to cooperate fully with security forces. The monarch commended the security operatives for their work in preserving peace and encouraged their continued commitment.

Call for Synergy Ahead of Lekki Deep Port Operations

In a related development, stakeholders and security personnel have called for greater synergy to address the complex security challenges in the coastal community, especially with the Lekki Deep Port and Dangote Refinery nearing full operation.

This call was made during a one-day workshop themed “Inter-Agency Collaboration on Community Policing for a Safer Ibeju-Lekki,” organised by the local government council.

Chairman Olowa, represented by his vice, Motunrayo Sophie Adarrame, noted that the area’s rapid economic growth necessitates a proactive, intelligence-driven approach to security. He said the workshop was a crucial platform for brainstorming ideas to strengthen the partnership between security agencies and the community.

Lt. Col. Samson Enye assured attendees that security personnel are working tirelessly to protect lives and property. He stressed the need for public support through timely information and responsible social media use. “We are not resting on our oars,” he said. “However, we appeal to the public to be cautious in the use of social media so as not to spread unverified information that can cause panic.”

Also speaking, ACP Gbolahan Daramola, the Area Commander for Area J Police Command, highlighted the importance of community awareness, emergency planning, and building trust with security operatives. He emphasised that information sharing is critical for effective policing.

The meeting concluded with a unified pledge from all participants to sustain peace and ensure the safety of residents and businesses in Ibeju-Lekki.

Several key security organisations contributed to a recent workshop, with presentations delivered by a range of national and state-level bodies. Participants included the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Directorate of State Security (DSS). Representatives from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Neighborhood Safety Corps also attended, alongside various volunteer groups.
