Tensions escalated on Tuesday as frustrated APC members from various local government areas—including Badagry, Mushin, Amuwo-Odofin, Eti-Osa, Somolu, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, and Oshodi-Isolo—converged at the APC State Secretariat on ACME Road, Ikeja, demanding clarity and fairness regarding the primaries.

The demonstrators accused certain party officials of manipulating the electoral results and called for a reevaluation of the announced outcomes in specific constituencies. This protest was one of several emerging across Lagos since the local party declared its list of candidates from the primaries.

In response to being linked to the protests, Obasa firmly denied any involvement in organizing or financing them, questioning the motivation behind such accusations.

“It is foolish, malicious, misleading, and unfounded for anyone to think that I would encourage or mobilize protestors from different local governments to the secretariat. What would be the purpose?” the Speaker asserted.

He emphasized that he is neither a candidate in the disputed elections nor a beneficiary of any results to justify spending such a significant sum on protests.

“I am not a candidate in the contested election, so why and how would I allocate such resources to orchestrate protests?” he challenged.

Obasa criticized the deliberate attempt to involve him in the unrest and use him as a scapegoat for the dissatisfaction voiced by other party members across the state.

Reaffirming his loyalty to the APC, he expressed his dedication to promoting unity, peace, and progress within the party. He stated that he has consistently worked towards the stability of the APC and would never endorse actions that could foster division or compromise party integrity.

“I am a peace-loving member of the party, and I detest the use of my name and position for any illegal activities or to create discord within the party,” he asserted.

As tensions in the aftermath of the primaries persist, Obasa urged party supporters and the public to dismiss rumors tying him to the protests, reiterating his commitment to strengthening the party and maintaining harmony among its members.

In closing, the Speaker assured APC members and Lagos residents of his steadfast commitment to the peace, unity, and ongoing progress of both the ruling party and Lagos State.
