Ayo Oritsejafor, the former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has urged President Bola Tinubu not to run for re-election in 2027, citing his administration’s failure to fulfill the hopes of Nigerians and its exacerbation of the country’s problems.
In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Oritsejafor criticized the government’s lack of effective leadership to tackle national issues and suggested that it should pave the way for more capable leaders.

He expressed concern that Nigeria seems to be regressing, with citizens enduring heightened difficulties and dwindling prospects for improvement.
He claimed that the current administration has caused more harm than good and should not be granted another chance to continue its approach.

Commenting on the recent electoral successes of the APC, the former CAN president expressed doubts about the integrity of the electoral process in Nigeria, labeling many elections as predetermined rather than true democratic exercises.
He argued that the electoral system fails to reflect the people’s will, with many voters feeling that their votes no longer matter.
Oritsejafor stated that if he were to meet Tinubu in person, he would express that his administration has not performed satisfactorily and should either step aside, refrain from running again, or endorse individuals capable of bringing about real change.
He affirmed that the church will continue to address national issues and hold leaders accountable for the benefit of the Nigerian populace.
