Former Agege Local Government Chairman Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi and Azeez Oladapo Yusuf, close associates of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, have responded to their alleged expulsion from the All Progressives Congress (APC), labeling the action as outdated and insignificant.
Having recently switched to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), they clarified that they officially resigned from the APC in July 2026, weeks before the APC announced their expulsion on September 23.

In a joint statement, Egunjobi and Yusuf emphasized that the APC’s announcement did not impact their political affiliation since they had already moved to the APM.
“To clarify, we left the APC in July 2026—well before the Party declared our supposed expulsion on September 23,” they stated.
They questioned the validity of a party expelling individuals who had already resigned, calling the announcement politically unnecessary.

The former APC members also recounted their departure, noting they had won primary elections in their constituencies but were unjustly denied the candidacy. They attempted to resolve issues through petitions, representations, and press conferences before deciding to leave the APC.
They expressed frustration over the lack of meaningful response from the party leadership regarding their concerns and clarified that joining the APM was a legitimate political choice after exhausting all options within the APC.

Moreover, they accused the Lagos APC leadership of trying to distort the narrative of their departure with the September 23 announcement.
“We will not be swayed by such tactics. We stand by our decision and will not let a belated statement alter the reality of our departure,” they asserted.
This development is taking place amidst a surge in political dynamics in Lagos in preparation for the 2027 elections, particularly surrounding party nominations and internal conflicts in the Agege constituency.
