The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for attempting to connect the 2018 Offa bank robbery to the recent surge in banditry and kidnappings affecting parts of the state.
In a statement released by their Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the opposition party referred to the Governor’s remarks during his visit to Oke Ode on Thursday as “a clear display of ignorance and a disgraceful political maneuver.”

The PDP emphasized that equating a singular instance of urban crime like the Offa robbery with the ongoing issues of rural banditry, mass kidnappings, and attacks on farms in both Kwara North and South showcases “a startling inability to grasp the situation at hand.”
“Banditry and kidnapping are direct results of ungoverned spaces, failed intelligence, and an overwhelmed security infrastructure. A governor who fails to understand the fundamental difference between these two threats is clearly incapable of providing the right solution,” the statement reads.

The party further accused the Governor of exploiting the pains of Offa people for political gain, noting that the scars of the robbery attack, which claimed dozens of lives, are still fresh in the community.
Reacting to AbdulRazaq’s claim that former Senate President Bukola Saraki is still in court over the robbery, the PDP described the allegation as “a barefaced lie,” recalling that the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation had previously stated there was no evidence linking Saraki to the crime.
“It is laughable that a sitting governor wants Kwarans to believe that a two-term governor and Senate President would sponsor daylight armed robbers and even brand their vehicles with his name. This is propaganda taken too far, a clear evidence of desperation and poor judgment,” the PDP declared.
The opposition party urged Offa people to reject what it called the Governor’s attempt to exploit their trauma, stressing that the real problem confronting Kwara is the government’s inability to contain insecurity.
“Governor AbdulRazaq, Saraki is not your problem. The opposition is not your problem. Your problem is your incompetence, cluelessness, and absenteeism in the face of a mounting security catastrophe,” the statement added.
