Lawal, an enthusiastic alumnus of ABU, reflected on his time at the university as among the best periods of his life, highlighting the supportive environment that encouraged students to remain on campus even during breaks.

He pledged his dedication to the university’s growth and called on fellow alumni to contribute positively towards ABU’s advancement.

“It’s crucial that we find ways to support the success of the Vice-Chancellor and the institution,” he remarked.

The governor expressed gratitude to ABU for prioritizing applicants from Zamfara State, noting that his achievements stem from the excellent education he received there.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ahmed praised Governor Lawal for his steadfast support of ABU, which predates his tenure in office. He acknowledged that not all alumni stay engaged after graduation, but the governor consistently has.

Prof. Ahmed also celebrated ABU as a significant legacy of Sir Ahmadu Bello and expressed pride in Lawal’s accomplishments, especially in areas like education, agriculture, and infrastructure.

He further recognized the International Studies Alumni Association for their continued dedication to the department.

Ambassador Muntari Abdu Kaita, the National President of the International Studies Alumni Association, emphasized that the library renovation involved more than just cosmetic updates; it focused on promoting digital access for students in Zaria, ensuring they have the same information access as peers in prestigious institutions globally.

He thanked Governor Lawal for enhancing the library, which he deemed one of the finest at the university.

Prof. Raymond Bako, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), commended the governor’s ongoing interest in ABU, noting that prominent alumni like Lawal play a vital role in garnering support for the institution.

Dr. M. L. Tafida, the head of the department, expressed appreciation for the governor’s efforts in rebuilding the department’s facilities and providing a coaster bus for staff transportation, stating that the upgraded library would greatly enhance the department’s national standing.

The event was attended by various senior university officials, including Prof. Bello Sabo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Advancement, Research and Innovation), Malam Yakubu Anivbassa, representative of the Registrar, Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi Mohammed, Acting University Librarian, along with several directors and deans.
