Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Fatai Tijani, has reassured residents that a commercial area in Lagos is secure following an explosion believed to be from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that caused temporary alarm.
Tijani made this statement on Monday while speaking to reporters at the Shoe Materials Market in Mushin, shortly after security teams finished a thorough search of the site.

He reported that the police were alerted to the explosion and quickly sent Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units to secure and control the area.
“Upon receiving reports of the explosion, our EOD team was rapidly deployed to cordon off the area and conduct a detailed search,” he explained.
Initial investigations revealed that the explosion originated from an IED concealed under a vehicle.

Tijani noted that the device was situated on the passenger side of the vehicle and detonated when the engine was turned on.

βThe IED was positioned beneath the vehicle on the passenger side. It went off when the vehicleβs engine was started,β he indicated.
He reported that one person was injured in the blast and has been taken to a hospital for medical care; the individual’s condition is stable.
After a meticulous examination by EOD specialists, Tijani confirmed that no further explosive devices were found in the vicinity.
He urged the community, particularly those in the affected commercial area, to remain calm and return to their regular activities. Tijani also mentioned that remnants of the explosive device have been collected for forensic analysis as investigations are ongoing.
