The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled a hearing for May 28 regarding a lawsuit aimed at compelling the Nigeria Police Force to reopen the investigation into the death of the late artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.
Justice James Omotosho postponed the proceedings after confirming that all relevant parties had been notified. The defendants in the case include the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State.

The lawsuit, brought forth by the Registered Trustees of Break the Silence Foundation, seeks a mandamus order directing the police to carry out a “thorough, diligent, and impartial” reexamination of the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death in September 2023.

During the court session on Monday, the applicant’s attorney, Tunde Falola, informed the court that all parties involved in the case numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/***/2026 had received proper notification, leading to the case’s adjournment.

Additionally, the foundation is requesting that the court mandate the police to question individuals who were last seen with the singer, particularly his wife, Omowumi Cynthia Aloba, close friends, and his father, Joseph Aloba, who allegedly conducted his burial without prior police authorization.
They are also urging the court to instruct the police to detain and prosecute anyone deemed responsible once sufficient evidence of culpability is established.
