Former Inspector-General of Police Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun has asked family, friends and well-wishers to celebrate his birthday by helping those in need instead of buying gifts, urging Nigerians to embrace charity, pray for peace and support vulnerable citizens.

Rather than receiving presents, the former police chief encouraged well-wishers to use the occasion to feed hungry families, support children’s education, assist people needing medical care and extend kindness to widows, orphans and other vulnerable Nigerians.

Egbetokun, who celebrates his birthday on Friday, September 4, 2026, said the greatest gift he desires this year is prayer and a collective commitment to building a more peaceful Nigeria.

In a message released to commemorate his birthday, Egbetokun reflected on his life’s journey, expressing gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve the nation and for the people who have been part of his journey over the years.

He appealed to friends and associates to transform any money they intended to spend on birthday gifts into practical support for those facing hardship.

“If you wish to spend money to mark my birthday, please let that money become food on someone’s table, hope in someone’s heart and relief to someone facing difficult circumstances,” he said.

The former IGP emphasized that even the smallest act of generosity can become a lifeline for someone in distress.

Beyond personal prayers, Egbetokun urged Nigerians to remember the country in their supplications, saying the nation urgently needs divine intervention to overcome its security and economic challenges.
