Federal Government to Open Lagos–Calabar Coastal road on Friday

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that a portion of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway will be temporarily opened to the public on Friday, December 12, 2025, in a move aimed at easing traffic flow across Lagos during the festive season.

The temporary opening, which covers Section 1 of the highway from Ahmadu Bello Way Junction to Eleko Village Junction, is being carried out through the Federal Ministry of Works following the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

The event is scheduled to take place at Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos, beginning at 10:00 a.m. prompt.

Aimed at Reducing Festive Traffic Pressure

According to the Ministry, the decision aligns with the President’s commitment to ensuring smoother mobility for residents and commuters during the high-traffic holiday period.

Officials say the temporary opening will provide much-needed relief on major Lagos corridors, especially as holiday travel peaks.

The Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects under the current administration, is expected to significantly transform transport and commerce along Nigeria’s southern corridor upon completion.

The Federal Ministry of Works described the event as an important step in the broader construction timeline of the project.

Although still under development, the opening of Section 1 will allow motorists to begin experiencing the benefits of the highway earlier than originally projected.

Government representatives and stakeholders in the transport and construction sectors are expected to attend the ceremony.
