“This measure is part of our reform agenda to safeguard the integrity of classrooms and ensure that only individuals with verified moral character and ethical conduct are entrusted with educating the nation’s children,” Dr. Alausa said. He stressed that private school owners would also be mandated to verify the TRCN registration and ethical clearance of their teachers.

The TRCN portal, he explained, has been designed to integrate a secure verification system that will allow schools, government agencies, and stakeholders to confirm teachers’ credentials in real time. According to him, the system aims to promote transparency, eliminate cases of impersonation and forgery, and rid the education sector of unqualified teaching staff.

Dr. Ronke Soyombo, Chief Executive of TRCN, highlighted features of the new platform, which include AI-powered lesson planning, criminal record checks, and teachers’ investigation panels across all states. She added that the portal is a step towards improving the quality of education by making resources, training, and professional support easily accessible to teachers.

Speaking at the launch, Senior Education Adviser at the British High Commission, Ian Attfield, reaffirmed the UK government’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s education reforms. He noted that the UK has been closely engaged with TRCN’s leadership to help develop a system capable of integrating data from various schools and motivating teachers through a blend of support and incentives.

Attfield described the task of reforming Nigeria’s teacher management system as complex but achievable over the coming years, assuring continued UK partnership in driving the reforms forward.
