“Upon the arrival of the LRT at the incident scene by 12:13 hours, it was observed that a residential bungalow with two shops attached was engulfed by fire,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.

According to LASEMA, preliminary findings indicate that the fire started in one of the rooms before spreading rapidly to other parts of the building.

“The fire reportedly started in a room before spreading to other rooms within the building,” the permanent secretary explained.

After the fire was brought under control, emergency officials conducted a post-incident assessment, during which the body of the elderly woman was discovered.

“Unfortunately, one life—a 103-year-old centenarian (name withheld)—was lost to the incident,” Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed.

The inferno caused extensive damage, destroying eight rooms, a mini-flat, six shops, and numerous household items.

LASEMA noted that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, adding that investigations will be carried out to establish what triggered the blaze.

The recovered body has been handed over to the deceased’s family for necessary arrangements.

“The fire has been completely extinguished,” Oke-Osanyintolu said, adding that LASEMA officials, in collaboration with other first responders, have concluded all rescue and recovery operations at the scene.
