Tinubu stated, “I commend Lagos State for once again demonstrating its ability as Africa’s capital of creativity and entertainment. I congratulate the Lagos State Government and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the exceptional hosting of Africa’s global music awards, ensuring a safe and lively environment for delegates, artists, and guests from all over the continent.”

The 9th AFRIMA, held in Lagos—which was designated the official host city by the African Union Commission—saw Nigerian artists excel. Rema won Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African RnB & Soul, while Burna Boy secured Album of the Year. Additional winners included Shallipopi, Phyno, Qing Madi, Yemi Alade, Chella, Kenny Ogungbe, and Dayo Adeneye, who were recognized for various achievements.

President Tinubu highlighted that these accolades reflect years of dedication, talent, and perseverance within Nigeria’s music scene, underscoring its role as a powerful voice for the nation across Africa and beyond. He expressed pride in the artists’ accomplishments, viewing them as a testament to Nigeria’s rich cultural identity.

He stated, “I warmly congratulate our remarkable Nigerian artists for their significant achievements at the 9th All Africa Music Awards. Your success on this prominent continental platform is a moment of pride for our nation, showcasing the depth of talent and creativity in Nigeria’s music sector.”

While emphasizing the importance of the creative economy, Tinubu promised that his administration will continue to focus on youth empowerment and foster creative industries, which have the potential to generate jobs and enhance tourism in Nigeria.

He remarked, “Culture is the essence of a people, and music remains one of Africa’s strongest expressions. I am committed to supporting initiatives that uplift our culture and empower our artists.”

Lagos has gained recognition for its historic events, including the E1 powerboat race and GITEX 2025, showcasing its capacity to host major international gatherings. Founded in 2014 by the International Committee of AFRIMA in association with the African Union Commission, the 9th AFRIMA attracted over 1,216 participants from 48 African countries, reflecting its significance across the continent.

The event began with a Welcome Soiree at the residence of the Deputy British High Commissioner, followed by the Africa Music Business Summit at the Eko Convention Centre. The festivities included performances from over 25 top artists at the AFRIMA Music Village and concluded with a sold-out grand finale honoring outstanding creatives with the gold-plated AFRIMA trophy.
