Gateway International Airport achieves Nigeria’s first aerodrome operational permit

Gateway International Airport in Ilisan-Iperu, Ogun State, has reached a significant milestone by becoming the first airport in Nigeria to receive an Aerodrome Operational Permit (AOP) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). This certification marks a breakthrough under the NCAA’s updated regulatory framework.

Additionally, the airport’s Instrument Landing System/Distance Measuring Equipment (ILS/DME) on Runway 23 has been deemed “totally satisfactory in all respects” by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) following a successful flight inspection on September 4, 2025, allowing for unrestricted use of the system.

Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, praised the approvals as a testament to his administration’s goal of establishing Ogun State as a hub for commerce, investment, and international connectivity.

“This achievement is significant not only for Ogun State but for Nigeria as a whole. Gateway International Airport symbolizes progress and sets a new standard for aviation infrastructure,” the Governor stated.

These certifications solidify Gateway International Airport’s role as a transformative force in Nigeria’s aviation industry. It promises safer and more reliable operations, direct international access for local farmers, new job opportunities for youth, and reduced congestion at Lagos airports, significantly enhancing the aviation landscape for both Ogun State and the nation.

By reaching these remarkable milestones, Ogun State reaffirms its position as a leader in aviation development, infrastructure innovation, and global competitiveness.
