The conference is themed ‘Active Voices: Youth-Driven Journalism for National Cohesion and Progress.’ The theme is designed to promote meaningful discussion on the role of young journalists in promoting national cohesion and progress.

The conference seeks to bring together young media professionals and media enthusiasts to discuss how the inputs of youth in journalism can aid national unity and progress.

ICJC 2026 will feature Professor Laolu Akande as the keynote speaker. Mr Akande is the Editor-in-Chief of Empowered Newswire; he served as the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the former Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

The conference will also feature two panel sessions, with six media professionals serving as panellists.

The themes of the two panel sessions are: ‘Vibrant and Impactful Journalism as a Tool for Accountability, Civic Engagement, and National Development,’ and ‘From Campus Journalism to Mainstream: Preparing Young Journalists for the Professional Media Space.’

The media professionals will share their thoughts, opinions and experiences on each of the topics. The lineup of speakers for the conference draws attention towards how the voices of youth are integral in discussing matters that affect the youth, in this case journalism.
