Speaking during a sermon titled “Possess Your Possessions”, the revered cleric emphasized that death for believers in Christ does not have to come through prolonged illness or suffering. Instead, he envisions a sudden and painless transition.
“I will die on a Sunday after attending service, eat my beloved pounded yam, and then pass on without any sickness,” Adeboye stated, adding that he had first shared this vision two years ago.
He explained that repeating it was meant to reassure Christians that death can be a peaceful and glorious experience, especially for those walking closely with God.

In his sermon, Pastor Adeboye urged Christians to claim their spiritual and physical blessings through faith and spiritual warfare. Using the story of the Israelites’ conquest of the Promised Land as a reference point, he noted that: “In many cases, you may have to fight for things that are already yours.”
Quoting John 10:10, he reminded believers of the constant battle between divine promises and the devil’s attempts to derail them: “Your greatest friend, Jesus Christ, paid a great price to purchase your healing. Yet there is a thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Long life is yours, but the devil wants to kill you with all he has. You must fight to live.”
The 82-year-old spiritual leader also addressed the subject of prosperity, criticising the societal double standard often faced by successful Christians.

“The One who owns the earth and its fullness, and owns all the silver and gold, paid a terrible price so that you wouldn’t be poor. As long as you want to remain poor, you will remain poor,” he said pointedly.
He noted that whether a Christian is rich or poor, the world often finds ways to criticize, “If you make it as a Christian, they criticise you. If you die poor, they say, ‘Where’s your God?’”
