I will generate 10,000MW of electricity for Nigerians, but they need to vote for me — Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), stated that Nigerians do not need to understand the specifics of how he intends to generate 10,000 megawatts of electricity if elected, emphasizing that they should instead believe in his capabilities and vote for him.

In an interview with media personality Rufai Oseni, Obi was pressed for details on his proposed increase in Nigeria’s power generation capacity to 10,000MW within four years.

He refrained from providing a detailed plan, explaining that political leaders are evaluated based on their credibility rather than needing to share every detail of their strategies.

Obi asserted, “No, no, no, I’m not going to tell you how. It is not for you to know how. It is for you to look at the man who is saying this.” He highlighted his history of fulfilling commitments as a former governor and reiterated his dedication to enhancing Nigeria’s electricity supply.

He confidently stated, “In four years we will generate, transmit, and distribute at least 10,000 megawatts of electricity,” while maintaining that voters should focus on whether they trust him to accomplish this goal.

Obi criticized previous governments for stagnation in the power sector, noting that no new government-owned power plants have been commissioned since 2015.

He compared Nigeria’s progress unfavorably to countries like Indonesia, India, and Egypt, which have significantly boosted their electricity generation during the same timeframe.

He stressed that increasing power output is not complex, as he has studied successful approaches from other nations and knows what is needed to achieve similar results in Nigeria. “My commitment is that I will deliver it. I have my name on it,” he concluded.
