Ibeju-Lekki chairman calls for stronger media focus on grassroots Governance

The Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and Conference 57 chairman, Hon. Abdullah Sesan Olowa, has urged the media to give more attention to grassroots and community-level events, stressing the need for structured monitoring of local activities.

Speaking during the Wole Soyinka Centre X Space discussion on Local Impact Journalism at the Intersection of Politics, Olowa called for stronger collaboration between local journalists and local government authorities to promote transparency and accountability.

“We will want a situation where the media will focus more on grassroots and community events, and traditional journalists should put a structure in place to monitor activities. We need to increase the partnership between local journalism and the local government system to increase transparency and others,” he said.

Olowa also praised the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, saying, “APC is doing very well in all local governments in Lagos State compared to others from other states.”
