Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has urged Nigerians to complement their prayers for the country with responsible citizenship, hard work and collective action toward building a united and prosperous nation.
Sanwo-Olu made the call on Sunday at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Lagos, during a special Independence Thanksgiving Service marking Nigeria’s 66th anniversary of independence.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the governor said Nigeria’s challenges should not overshadow the resilience and potential of its people.
Speaking on the theme, “A Nation of Hope, Healing and Revival,” Sanwo-Olu said the anniversary offered an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey and renew their commitment to national development.
He highlighted Nigeria’s youthful population, creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, natural resources and capacity for innovation as assets capable of driving a stronger future.

The governor also stressed that national development was not solely the responsibility of government, urging citizens, faith-based organisations and other institutions to contribute through integrity, compassion, excellence and responsible citizenship.
Sanwo-Olu called for the raising of a generation that understands leadership as a responsibility and citizenship as a duty, while urging Nigerians to remain hopeful despite the challenges facing the country.

“A new Nigeria is possible when our prayers are matched by our actions, our hopes are strengthened by our work, and our differences are transformed into a source of collective strength,” he said.
The preacher, Pastor Isaac Abiara, similarly called on Nigerians to embrace compassion, truthfulness and a renewed commitment to rebuilding the nation.
Speaking from Isaiah 61:4, Abiara said national renewal required the collective efforts of government, the Church and citizens. He urged Nigerians to look beyond personal interests, uphold truth and work together to promote peace, justice and unity.
The service was attended by government officials, Christian leaders, public servants and members of the congregation, who offered prayers for Nigeria’s peace, progress and development.
