Peaceful demonstrations were observed in three northern states on Saturday, as members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) and other Shi’ite groups held processions in response to recent events in Iran.
According to Zagazola, the marches occurred in Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina, with no incidents of violence reported.

The demonstrators held placards showing support for Iran and criticizing the actions of the United States and Israel amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. Security forces were present along the route to manage traffic and maintain order, and the procession concluded peacefully by 5:00 p.m.

In a similar fashion, members of the Shi’ite community in Kaduna demonstrated from Ahmadu Bello Way to Leventis Roundabout at approximately 11:30 a.m., dispersing at Tudun Wada Junction around 2:00 p.m. The protest proceeded without incident, as security personnel oversaw the event at key locations.
In Katsina, Shi’ite group members held a short march from IBB Way near Green House to the Central Mosque at around 4:00 p.m., which was also monitored closely by security and intelligence teams.
Officials across the three states confirmed that there were no reports of violence, vandalism, or altercations, with normalcy returning shortly after the demonstrations concluded.
While the protests were peaceful, sources indicated that events in the Middle East have stirred emotional responses in various countries, sometimes leading to attacks on diplomatic missions. They recommended increased vigilance around essential national infrastructure and diplomatic sites, particularly embassies and foreign missions, to mitigate any possible threats.
Authorities also highlighted the importance of proactive intelligence, visible patrols, and community engagement to ensure that peaceful demonstrations remain lawful and do not result in security issues.
