Kaduna rainstorm takes two lives, leaves over 50 homes in ruins

In a tragic event, a severe rainstorm struck Dokan Mai-Jama’a in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, resulting in the loss of at least two lives and the destruction of more than 50 homes.

Alhaji Hamisu Tukur, the village head, confirmed the disaster, highlighting the extensive damage and the displacement of numerous residents.

On Tuesday, Tukur shared that the storm severely impacted over 50 households, with many homes completely leveled by the fierce winds.

Residents described how the intense downpour, paired with strong gusts, commenced at approximately 6:41 p.m. on Monday and persisted for around 40 minutes.

A visit to the area unveiled a scene of widespread destruction, leaving many families without shelter as they sifted through debris to salvage their possessions.

While some structures were entirely reduced to rubble, others suffered significant roof damage, leaving occupants vulnerable to the elements.

Numerous residents impacted by the recent storm have been seen looking for temporary places to stay.

Victims are urging the Kaduna State Government, as well as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), to provide immediate support.

In a similar situation, the storm also hit the Sabon Gyero community in Millennium City, causing damage to multiple homes and over 10 perimeter fences.

Witnesses reported that the heavy rain obstructed traffic when a main road became impassable, requiring drivers to seek alternate routes.

In the meantime, NEMA has deployed a team to evaluate the damage and figure out the appropriate course of action.
