The tournament continues to spotlight Nigerian youth football by providing opportunities for talented young players to showcase their abilities to international clubs.

This year, representatives from Westerlo KVC, and AC Horsens are in attendance.

Nigeria has already produced elite European forwards such as Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface, and Westerlo believes the country remains a goldmine for future stars ready to break into top leagues.

Head of Scouting Academy at Westerlo, Patrick Kempeneers, explained that the club’s consistent appearances in Lagos are part of a long-term plan to identify another groundbreaking Nigerian striker.

“Nigeria continues to produce players with strength, skill, and a strong mentality. We know another Osimhen can come from here,” he noted.

Coordinator of the scouting project, Martin Baton, said participation is based on a strict evaluation process that monitors grassroots talent across Nigeria.

“Participants are carefully monitored throughout the year. We study how active the players are and the level of competition they feature in,” Baton explained.

He added that the program has already sent more than 10 players on trials in Europe, including three who trained with Westerlo last year.

Baton also highlighted that the project supports players throughout the visa and trial stages, ensuring they have a real opportunity abroad.

“Our partnership with European clubs creates an environment where clubs benefit, and young Nigerians also build careers. It’s mutually beneficial,” he stated.

This year’s edition saw Athletic SC defeat Dannaz 2-0 in the final, with several standout youngsters now being observed for possible European trials.
