Lekki cult clash leaves three dead as Lagos Police boost security in Lekki-Ajah

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended two alleged armed robbers and confiscated weapons, ammunition, and illicit drugs during a targeted operation at a hotel thought to serve as a hideout for criminals in the Akala region of Mushin, Lagos.

As stated by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi, the police acted on reliable intelligence after observing four suspected robbers at Empire Junction by Jibonwu around 10 a.m. on Friday.

The suspects tried to escape when they noticed the police, but one, a 21-year-old named Toheeb Adeboye, was caught with a bag that contained a locally made cut-to-size single-barrel gun, an English Barreter pistol with two live 9mm rounds, and another improvised pistol with ten live cartridges.

During questioning, Adeboye admitted that the gang had recently committed a robbery in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, and were on their way to their usual hideout, the New Supreme Hotel in Akala, Mushin, to divide their stolen goods.

Acting on this information, police quickly executed a raid on the hotel and arrested another gang member, 33-year-old Ajayi Adeniyi, who was found with a homemade pistol. The operation also yielded a laptop, charms, items suspected to be Indian hemp, and hard drugs.

SP Adebisi confirmed that the hotel has been permanently closed off, stating that both suspects and all recovered items have been transferred to the State Command Headquarters for further investigation.

She also mentioned that efforts are underway to locate other gang members who managed to escape.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, praised the officers for their prompt and professional response and urged hotel operators throughout Lagos to thoroughly vet their guests and maintain precise records of residents.

“Negligence from hotel owners can turn their establishments into safe havens for criminals. The police will take action against any business found to be sheltering suspected criminals,” the CP warned.

He reassured residents of the command’s dedication to ensuring safety and encouraged Lagosians to stay observant and report any suspicious behaviors in their communities.
