LASTMA comes to aid as loaded truck falls from Oshodi bridge

A significant accident was narrowly avoided in Oshodi, Lagos, when a fully-loaded truck carrying printing materials lost control and fell off the Oshodi bridge into the terminal area below. The truck reportedly experienced a severe mechanical failure while going down the bridge, causing it to veer off course before crashing down.

The incident, which took place on Thursday, could have led to many injuries but was quickly managed thanks to the prompt and organized response from officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). Witnesses reported that LASTMA officers arrived at the site within minutes to lead rescue operations and address the heavy traffic congestion that ensued.

A male victim with serious injuries was swiftly rescued and transported to a local hospital for immediate care. Meanwhile, the truck driver was detained and handed over to officers at Makinde Police Station, Oshodi, who have begun an investigation into the accident. Authorities will look into the alleged brake failure and other mechanical issues that may have played a role in the incident.

LASTMA officials’ rapid response has been credited with averting what could have turned into a large-scale disaster in one of Lagos’ busiest transit areas.
