The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has sealed some premises along Ago Palace Way over persistent illegal waste dumping and arrested 11 persons for unauthorised waste disposal on Lagos Island.
The enforcement operation covered plazas, hotels, lounges and warehouses along Ago Palace Way, where activities linked to waste accumulation on road setbacks, medians and other unauthorised locations were identified.

According to LAWMA Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Lagos Island operation covered Tinubu, Apongbon, Oke-Arin and CMC areas and resulted in the arrest of 11 persons for illegal waste handling and disposal.
Gbadegesin said the enforcement was part of the Authority’s efforts to ensure compliance with waste management regulations and sustain environmental cleanliness across the state.

He urged residents, traders, businesses and property owners to stop dumping waste on roads, walkways and drains, stressing that waste should be properly bagged and handed over to accredited Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators.
The LAWMA boss said the Authority would continue to monitor different parts of Lagos and take enforcement action against individuals and businesses that violate environmental regulations.
He added that the exercise was aimed not only at apprehending offenders but also at promoting compliance and encouraging responsible waste management practices among residents.
Residents were also encouraged to report cases of illegal dumping and other waste management violations through LAWMA’s established channels.
