The Executive Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), has officially declared open the maiden edition of the Lekki Beach Kids Cup 2026, describing the tournament as a landmark initiative designed to discover young talents and strengthen grassroots sports development within the council.
The historic competition, the first beach football tournament for primary schools in Lekki LCDA, drew pupils, teachers, parents, sports enthusiasts, and community leaders to the opening ceremony.

Speaking before the tournament’s opening fixture, Kasali emphasised that the competition represents far more than a football event, noting that it is an investment in the future of children across the council.
Addressing participants, the council boss encouraged all teams to compete with discipline, teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship while stressing the broader objectives of the initiative.
He said. “I welcome you to the Lekki Beach Kids Cup 2026. Today marks the beginning of something special. The Lekki Beach Kids Cup 2026 is more than a football tournament; it is an investment in the dreams, talents, and future of our children.”

Kasali explained that the competition was created to provide young people with opportunities to develop valuable life skills alongside their football talents.
He added, “Through this initiative, we are creating opportunities for young people to develop discipline, teamwork, confidence, and a lifelong passion for sports.”
The chairman further described the tournament as a deliberate strategy to identify hidden talent while laying a solid foundation for grassroots football in Lekki LCDA.
He continued, “The Lekki Beach Kids Cup is more than a football tournament, it is a deliberate investment in the future of our children and the sporting destiny of Lekki LCDA. Through this platform, we are discovering raw talents, building character, and laying the foundation for grassroots sports development.”
Kasali reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment through sports, insisting that every child deserves an opportunity to excel both academically and athletically.
“At Lekki LCDA, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to shine, both in the classroom and on the field. The Lekki Beach Kids Cup is our commitment to unearthing hidden talents and nurturing the next generation of Nigerian football stars right from our beaches,β he said.

He also commended the Supervisor for Sports, Shonaike Olatokunbot, the Senior Special Assistant on Students’ Affairs, the Education Department, and members of the Local Organising Committee for their dedication and hard work in ensuring the successful launch of the tournament.
The chairman expressed confidence that the competition would become an annual sporting event capable of producing future football stars from the grassroots.
Community Primary School Folu opens tournament in style
The opening match lived up to expectations as Community Primary School, Folu, delivered an impressive performance to defeat LG Primary School, Ilege 5-0.
Basiru Faruk and Atanda Emmanuel each scored two goals, while Mabami Ayokunle added the fifth to complete an emphatic victory and give Community Primary School, Folu the perfect start to the competition.
The maiden edition of the Lekki Beach Kids Cup is expected to feature several primary schools across the LCDA as young footballers compete for honours while showcasing their talents.
