Nafisa deserves national honour, Flat and $100k – Ex-Minister of communication tells Tinubu to celebrate Nigeria’s Global English Champion

Nafisa Abdullah Aminu

Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, CON, has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to honour 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, who emerged global champion in the 2025 TeenEagle English Language Competition held in London, UK.

Nafisa, a student of Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) in Yobe State, stunned the world by outperforming over 20,000 participants from 69 countries, including native English speakers, to claim first place globally.

Pantami, in a public message making rounds across media platforms, praised Nafisa’s brilliance, discipline, and commitment, calling her a “shining example of Nigerian potential” when given the right environment and support.

“There is no doubt that her success can be attributed to her natural talent, dedication, discipline, and the support she received from her parents and schools. Nafisa’s achievement highlights the potential of Nigerian students to excel globally,” he said.

In light of the Federal Government’s recent rewards to sports teams, including $100,000, a flat, and OON honours for each player of the Super Falcons and D’Tigress, Pantami strongly recommended that Nafisa deserves the same.

He said, “I strongly recommend that Nafisa deserves $100,000, a three-bedroom flat, and a national honour. In addition, her English teacher deserves a reward similar to that of the coaching and technical team of the national football and basketball teams.”

He emphasised that if Nigeria truly believes education is the foundation for national development, then such a global academic triumph must be celebrated on a national stage.

Pantami’s statement challenges the government and society to elevate education to the same level as sports in terms of reward and visibility.

He said, “What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Let’s invite our daughter and the daughter of all Nigerians, along with her English teacher, to the presidency.”
