According to the Service, the initiative aligns with the Nigerian Correctional Service Act of 2019, which emphasises reformation and rehabilitation of offenders through education and vocational skills training.
The Kano State Government reaffirmed its commitment to inmate education, stressing that investing in correctional learning is a pathway to reintegration.
“This is part of our effort to ensure that inmates do not return to society as liabilities but as responsible citizens with skills and education to contribute positively,” a government official said.
Officials further noted that the program reflects President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which seeks to improve the quality of life of all Nigerians, including those serving prison terms.
The NCoS encouraged more inmates to embrace the opportunities provided, adding that education remains a powerful tool for transformation, even within correctional walls.
