Nigeria Boxing Team Arrives Angola For 4th Africa Youth Games

The Nigeria Boxing contingent to the 2025 Africa Youth Games are now properly settled in the host nation.

The team led by the highly experienced national boxing coach Anthony Konyegwachie has three pugilists to fly the country’s flag at the multi-sports, which will feature athletes between the ages of 14 and 17 from 54 African nations.

The event, which was designed to foster sporting talent, integration, and cultural exchange among African countries,
more importantly, serve as a qualifier for the 2026 Youth Olympics Games in Dakar, Senegal.

Nigeria will be represented by two Male and one female boxer in the squared ropes event.

Abijuwon Faruk (50kg Male) Solomon Joshua (70kg Male) and the sole female in the squad Mayowa Ayomide will bout in the 48kg class. Also part of the boxing continent is the Secretary General of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) Vivian Azimene.

The NBF vice President Hon.Omonlei Imadu, who visited the boxers in camp in Abuja a few days before they departed for Angola praise the NSC for their support as he assures that the best talents has been selected to represent the country.

” Firstly I wish to commend the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC) for their support, they saw the need for these young boxers to be exposed beyond borderlines, and this experience will further strengthens their techniques and orientation beyond the ring”.

Imadu further expressed confidence in the boxers to secure the Youth Olympics Games tickets in their respective weight categories.

” I know this boxers we have selected, they are some of the best the country can boast of at this time, Coach Anthony Konyegwachie, has also done a great job in putting them in shape ahead of the event” so, we are very hopeful of a successful outing in Angola”. Imadu added.

The boxing event will get on the way on Monday, December 15th, while the Games, which got on the way on the 10th, will come to a close on Saturday, the 20th of this month.
