In response, Obasanjo-Bello expressed her commitment to the PDP, promising to adhere to its constitution, manifesto, and values. “I dedicate myself to the principles of the PDP. This development follows her resignation from the APC just weeks prior, where she cited disrespect, betrayal, and unfair treatment from the party leadership. She claimed that some individuals contributing to her political challenges were former allies whom she had previously supported and alleged that agreements within the party had been ignored.
Obasanjo-Bello joined the APC in early 2026 and announced her intention to run for governor of Ogun State. However, her ambitions were derailed when the party chose Senator Solomon Adeola as its consensus candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
After this decision, she withdrew her gubernatorial ambitions and resigned from the ruling party on June 8, stating that party leaders had marginalized her supporters and restricted their access to the event where the consensus was decided.

Having served as a senator for Ogun Central from 2007 to 2011 under the PDP, Obasanjo-Bello affirmed that she continues to be a significant political figure in the district. She expressed confidence about her candidacy for the upcoming election, asserting that her track record in the Senate is unparalleled in Ogun Central.
Political analysts believe her return to the PDP could alter the political dynamics in Ogun State as preparations for the 2027 elections ramp up. With her rejoining the opposition party and quickly becoming the senatorial candidate, focus is now shifting to how the APC and other political entities will react to this recent shift in Ogun politics.
