In response to the ruling, Alison-Madueke expressed her gratitude to God, labeling the protracted legal proceedings as deeply traumatic for her and her family.

In an interview with News Central, she revealed the emotional strain it has caused her loved ones, including her elderly mother and son. “I’m just thankful to God. It’s been a long and painful journey,” she remarked.

She noted that she has remained in the UK during the entirety of the legal process, which began shortly after her term as Nigeria’s petroleum minister under former President Goodluck Jonathan. “I’ve been here for almost 11 years and I’ve tried to perform my duties to the best of my ability,” she explained.

British prosecutors accused her of accepting benefits from individuals in the oil and gas sector in exchange for preferential treatment during her tenure. However, after considering the evidence, the court acquitted her of all charges, bringing an end to one of the most scrutinized international corruption cases involving a former Nigerian official.

This verdict represents a significant legal victory for Alison-Madueke, who has consistently proclaimed her innocence throughout the trial. The judgment is likely to reignite discussions in Nigeria regarding the longstanding corruption allegations against the former minister.
