Ogun govt recruits 448 interns, deploys to rural primary schools

In an effort to tackle the teacher shortage in public primary schools, particularly in rural areas, the Ogun State Government has recruited 448 OgunTeach interns and provided them with engagement and posting letters.

These letters were officially handed to the successful candidates at the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Secretariat located in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

During the presentation ceremony, SUBEB Chairman Evangelist Olalekan Ifede explained that the recruitment aims to enhance the workforce in rural schools. He encouraged the interns to embrace their placements with dedication and responsibility.

He cautioned against requests for redeployment, stating that such appeals would not be considered.

“If anyone approaches me for a change of posting, I will immediately remove their name. Many others are eager for this opportunity, and you should be thankful to Governor Dapo Abiodun for facilitating this engagement,” Ifede remarked.

He instructed the interns to begin their duties right away, warning that their positions would be automatically filled by others if they failed to comply.

He also highlighted the need for timely submission of assumption-of-duty documents to ensure prompt salary processing.

“We want to avoid any delays in your payment. Salary processing will only begin for those who submit their documents promptly,” he stated.

Ifede further urged the interns to collaborate well with their headteachers and colleagues, framing their engagement as a service obligation rather than a right.

He noted that their dedication, discipline, and performance would influence their chances for permanent positions.

“Basic education forms the foundation of our system. We need teachers who are dedicated to ensuring that students can read, write, and communicate effectively,” he added.

Earlier, Mr. Femi Fatade, SUBEB’s Director of Administration and Supplies, revealed that the selection process was strictly based on merit and that the postings were aligned with the specific needs of rural schools throughout the state.

On behalf of the interns, Mr. Adedayo Taiwo expressed gratitude to the Ogun State Government under Governor Abiodun’s leadership for the opportunity, promising that the recruits would carry out their responsibilities earnestly and as expected.
