The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has rejected claims suggesting that terrorists have set up a base in the South-West. They emphasized that the recent attack in Oyo State was a singular criminal event and not indicative of any broader insurgency in the area.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, highlighted that the military is ramping up efforts to rescue victims abducted during the attack on schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

βThe incident in Oyo State is an isolated criminal act and does not reflect the establishment of a sustained insurgent network in the area,β Onoja said.
He further mentioned that joint operations with other security agencies and local vigilantes are in progress to eliminate criminal activities and restore peace, urging residents to continue providing reliable information to support rescue missions.
βThe Armed Forces will persist until all abducted victims are recovered and those responsible are held accountable,β he added.
