The Oyo State Government has discontinued its traditional monthly environmental sanitation initiative, opting instead for a rigorous daily enforcement system aimed at promoting a cleaner and healthier environment throughout the state.
During a press conference celebrating his first 100 days in office, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Ademola Aderinto, characterized this change as a significant step toward ongoing environmental responsibility.

Aderinto stated that the new approach requires residents to prioritize cleanliness daily, not just once a month.
“We are implementing daily environmental sanitation. Our officials will be actively monitoring compliance every day. Cleanliness is now a daily responsibility,” he emphasized.
The Commissioner noted that environmental health officers have been assigned statewide to consistently monitor adherence to sanitation regulations.

To bolster this effort, Governor Seyi Makinde has re-engaged 930 environmental workers, including street sweepers, who will now clean public roads and spaces twice a day to enhance cleanliness.
Additionally, in a move to increase transparency and encourage community involvement, the state has launched the “Oyo Soro Soke (Oyo SSS)” Environmental Whistleblower platform. This platform, available through mobile apps and WhatsApp, allows residents to report environmental violations and sanitation issues in real-time.

Officials believe that the whistleblower initiative will promote accountability and motivate residents to actively participate in fostering a cleaner environment.
Other reforms include implementing a waste segregation system in government offices and plans to collaborate with private investors for building modern public toilets.
