As discussions about the 2027 presidential election intensify, Minister of Works, David Umahi, has dismissed the notion that Labour Party’s Peter Obi presents any political threat to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
During an appearance on Arise Television’s Daybreak Show on Tuesday, July 7, Umahi stated that both President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have no reason to be intimidated by Obi’s increasing political presence.

“Even I am not intimidated by Peter Obi, let alone President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or our party, the APC. What surrounds Peter Obi is just AI politics—substance without foundation. There is no fear regarding Peter Obi; he is not a threat to our president because he knows he cannot even confront me, let alone the president,” the minister explained.
Umahi also criticized Obi’s tenure as Anambra State governor, claiming that the former governor lacks the moral authority to demand President Tinubu’s resignation.

“I saw a statement where Peter Obi called for Tinubu to resign, and I asked myself: How often did Peter Obi resign as governor for failing to fix roads, establish industries, empower people, or set up an airport or seaport? He failed to pay contractors too,” he remarked.
Additionally, the minister accused members of the Obidient movement of being intolerant toward differing opinions, alleging that those who criticize Obi face insults, threats, and legal action.
“Examine the political climate surrounding Peter Obi. If you disagree with him, he takes you to court. How often have you criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and how many times has he taken anyone to court? Look at the Obidient movement, disagree with them and they insult, wish harm on others, and issue threats. Is that the type of behavior we want?” Umahi asserted.
