Ramaphosa’s visit, anticipated in early August to enhance relations, has been postponed until the safety of Ghanaians in South Africa is sufficiently addressed. This decision follows the death of 40-year-old Ghanaian fashion designer Bashiru Isak, who Ghana claims was shot during protests related to renewed anti-immigrant violence in Khayelitsha on June 30.

Ghana has lodged a formal protest with South Africa, calling the incident a senseless act of xenophobic violence and demanding accountability for those involved.

This disagreement highlights ongoing issues regarding the safety of African migrants in South Africa, where past incidents of violence against foreign nationals have raised widespread alarm.
