Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the NDC, has cautioned that if the 2027 general election is not held in a fair and credible way, Nigerians may take action themselves.
In an interview with Chude, Obi noted that the consequences of the next election could differ significantly from the legal disputes that followed the 2023 presidential poll.

He clarified that any future legal battles would involve the public rather than just the candidates, stating, “No, it will be the people who go to court now, not the candidates.”
Obi indicated that public response could escalate beyond legal actions if votes are mishandled. “Those who fail to count the votes in 2027 may face repercussions from the people,” he remarked, emphasizing that it would be the public taking charge of the situation.

When Chude referenced similarities to past comments by Seyi Makinde regarding “Operation Wetie,” Obi clarified that he was not aligning himself with any particular operation, insisting that citizens are in a fight for their survival.
He pointed to the deteriorating economic conditions as a source of growing public discontent, highlighting high youth unemployment rates and inadequate earnings for many workers.
When asked about the potential outcomes if the government fails to ensure fair elections in 2027, Obi reaffirmed that the public would likely pursue legal action, distinct from candidates, stating, “And that court session will be different.”
